"Speed Testing Is About Much More Than Just Numbers"

Speed and agility tests are critical tools to help coaches learn a lot about a player.
What position they are best suited for, and how they are progressing over time are probably the two biggest take away points.
But do your tests give you a way to guide their training?
Do the hard-working athletes who want to improve know exactly what they need to work on in order to be faster the next time?
Assessment is a critical piece in tracking the development of any young athlete, but without a clear path for improvement, it won't do much to actually make them any better.
Power Source Training's innovative approach to speed and agility testing goes beyond just giving times. We dig deeper, and assess the finer points of your running and cutting technique.
There is nothing magical about which tests we use, just in how we break down and analyze the results.
Still think speed is something you are just born with, that you can't correct and improve your mechanics? Consider the following:
- For the 30, 40, or 60 yard dash, we analyze 16 different skills you may or may not be doing correctly.
- For the Pro-I Agility Test, there are 9 skills.
- There are 9 for the Nebraska Agility Test, as well.
To put it simply, there are literally dozens of smaller skills within the big picture of developing 'game speed' that can be identified and improved.
Our full movement test analysis uses the three tests above, along with 4 more to give you a very detailed picture of what each individual is doing well, and where they need to improve.
The full 7 tests will give you feedback on your:
- Change of direction, or agility skills
- Straight-ahead speed
- Stopping mechanics
- Total body power
- Sport-specific agility
- Speed endurance
and
- Acceleration
Once you are aware of what skills you need to work on, then the speed training you do on your own, with us in our game speed clinics, or with your own coaches will be much more effective as you improve on these areas with repetition.
And the beauty of getting test feedback is that it is entirely personalized. Although you may go back into a team setting where everyone is running the same drills, you will always know what your personal focus should be on.
That is a critical advantage for anyone who seeks to become a better athlete.
Finding out whether you run a 4.7 in the 40, or whether you can break 4.0 in the Pro-I is nice to know.
Knowing how to make it better in the future is far more valuable.
