The first athlete I ever trained was myself.

That was about 20 years ago, as a freshman in high school. And like many of you, my goals were to get bigger, stronger, leaner, and faster.

At that time, the strength & conditioning field as we know it now was in its infancy.

Most of what we (my football teammates and I) did for training at the time was rooted in bodybuilding, and came from simply copying the biggest people in the gym.

We'd bench, squat, do curls, crunches, those types of things. If it was working for them, it must be the best way...right?

That was 20 years ago, and despite all the advances in how elite athletes are trained today, for many in this area not much has changed.

Simply following the same poorly thought out training programs from 20-30 years ago will not give you the competitive advantage you need to beat today's opponents.

Taking these older concepts and simply packaging them into a fast-paced, nausea-inducing format is not progress.
