Introducing Our Long-Term Strength Development System For Athletic Excellence

With the huge boom in youth sports participation throughout the United States, not to mention all the camps and clinics kids attend to improve their game, it is surprising that rarely does all this activity fit into an overall strategy for long-term athletic success.

What are the best areas and skills to focus on as a 13 year old athlete? An 8 year old? An 18 year old?

The same thing is now taking place in sports training programs, where often times little thought is given to the unique windows of opportunity that athletes have to build different skills during their younger years.

Power Source has spent more than a decade refining a long-term approach to developing elite athletes. It is patterned after the most successful sports training programs in the world, and is backed by what is now known by leading scientists about human growth and development.

Although it is far from this simple, here is a brief summary of how we train athletes at each level of development, and what you can expect from training with us at each stage of your career.

Age 7-10 (Beginner Youth Training) - This is a crucial period for improving coordination, balance, and overall athleticism. Our programs prioritize these needs, along with lower level bodyweight strength and power drills to set a foundation for future growth. (Click here to learn more about our Age 7-10 program offerings)

Age 11-12 (Advanced Youth Training) - The window for maximizing athleticism is not yet closed during this time, so we continue to train these skills regularly. What is different, though, is that this age group receives more aggressive bodyweight training for greater strength and power development. They also begin learning weight training technique with very light weights to prepare them for what is to come in later years.

You can find more detailed information about how we train Age 11-14 athletes on our middle school athlete page.

Age 13-14 (High School Prep Training) - These years are devoted to learning complex weight training skills, and integrating them into a more challenging strength and power program.

Careful consideration of growth spurts and their effect on training is factored in for those age 13 and 14. We will tailor their training to avoid causing more pain while helping them to get through the awkward coordination issues that come with growing quickly.

It is also during this stage that we begin to tailor training towards specific sports (Find our more about how Power Source trains athletes in various sports), and begin including preventative exercises for avoiding future injuries an individual may be at high risk for.

Age 15-16 (Varsity Training) - Those with at least one year of proper strength training will receive a challenging workout program that best fits their sport needs, and personal goals, to prepare them for excellence at the varsity level..

It is at age 15 that we will begin adding advanced muscle mass development and heavier weight training for those who need it. Also, programs can be tweaked to help those whose performance would benefit from getting leaner and stronger simultaneously.

Anyone who comes to us at age 15-16 without prior training experience will still get plenty of benefit from our system. We will start you with a short period of preparatory training before moving to the true Varsity-level workouts. You will progress at a pace that is entirely based on your personal needs, so you will not feel overwhelmed while being guided through our system.

Growth spurt considerations are also factored in during this time for anyone it applies to, along with injury prevention training.

You can find more detailed information about how we train Age 15-18 athletes on our high school athlete page.

Age 17-18 (College Prep Training) - Practically every college team, regardless of school or sport, now expects their players to dedicate themselves to a challenging off-season program.

Players who walk in on Day 1 with prior experience with this intense level of training not only make a great first impression on the coaching staff, but they significantly lower their risk of injury.

Power Source has helped dozens of athletes successfully prepare for their first college season in many sports, and will use that background to help you ramp up your training during the year or two before moving to the next level.

Athletes at this stage can expect to be pushed fairly hard, and will follow a program that is highly personalized to their sport, personal goals, and injury-prevention needs.

Although this is far from the ideal time to first get into a sports training program, we can certainly still help those with little or no training background to gradually ramp up to the level they will be expected to perform at in college.

Age 19+ (Elite Training) - Specifically designed for those who want to reach the peak of their sport, our elite training covers all aspects of performance development.

The intense workouts take advantage of the most cutting-edge concepts known today to provide you with the greatest results for your efforts.

Nutrition programs, safe supplement recommendations, and counseling are provided to energize your training, help you recover faster, and keep you healthy and playing at your best.

Performance coaching is provided to help you enhance the mental side of your game.
